GUEST SPEAKER | LAUREN JOANITIS FROM THE TROPICAL AUDUBON

LAUREN JOANITIS will be talking about Tropical Audubon and the ways we can get involved with local conservation

She has served as Executive Director of Tropical Audubon Society since 2025, following nearly four years as Senior Conservation Director, where she emerged as a leading voice in South Florida environmental policy and coalition-building. As chief executive, she drives strategy, advocacy, and organizational growth while advancing partnerships and policies that protect critical ecosystems including the Everglades, Biscayne Bay, and Pine Rocklands. Recognized locally and nationally for her impact, she has received honors such as Miami Today’s “Best of Miami for Environmental Stewardship”, the Miami Dolphins’ “Local Legend” designation, and key conservation awards from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Everglades Coalition. Her career spans public, private, and nonprofit sectors.  She currently serves as Vice President of Policy for the Society for Conservation Biology North America and co-chairs both the Everglades Coalition and the Biscayne Bay Marine Health Coalition. Lauren holds degrees in Zoology from SUNY Oswego and Conservation Biology from Bowling Green State University and is deeply committed to protecting South Florida’s natural heritage and inspiring others to do the same.
